It’s a doubleheader weekend! And you no what that means – double the opportunities to cash in on the action.
Ahead of our final two US rounds of 2022, Dominik Wilde gives you the lowdown on on the odds for this weekend; who's hot, who's worth a look at, and who he things will fare the best.
The favorite
Fraser McConnell is very much the man of the moment. A stunning podium in Minnesota after what should have been a weekend-ending wreck was followed up by a dominant first victory in the category, so it's no surprise that the lines have him top of their pile ahead of this weekend.
With momentum on his side, +350 may give you the smallest return, but it'd very much be a smart bet as we go racing twice at Wild Horse Pass.
The outsider
Bear with me on this one, because on-paper, he’s very much an ‘outsider’.
Kris Meeke has missed the other two US rounds, but in Europe he showed astonishing speed despite his lack of prior rallycross experience. At +1000 for the win and +250, behind the four event winners and series frontrunner Kevin Eriksson, Meeke’s very much worth a punt.
Our NASCAR stars Chase Elliott and Austin Cindric can’t be counted out, either. Elliott was solid during his one-off appearance in Nitro Rallycross last year, while Daytona 500 winner Cindric was quite the rallycross talent early on in his career. Expecting an overall win from both might be a bit of a stretch, but at +250 (Elliott) and +350 (Cindric), putting money on them making the podium isn't a totally outrageous idea.
The expert’s pick
With McConnell the odds-on favorite, and Travis Pastrana second favorite despite having a tricky time in California, it frees up a number of big names at good prices this weekend.
At +600 and +650 respectively, Robin Larsson and Andreas Bakkerud perhaps aren't the bookmakers tips to win, but Larsson finishing in the top-two of every race so far, and Bakkerud only missing the podium once in ‘22, both are pretty safe bets for a win, or at the very least a top-three result.
Larsson was one of my picks last time, along with McConnell, and McConnell went on to lead Larsson home, so even if I’m not allowed to bet, I’m definitely looking to keep my own streak going here.
